Subtitles look like a small thing until you count how many ways the four games do them. Jak II and Jak 3 carry their cutscene subtitles on the disc, with each speaker's name in a color of its own. Jak and Daxter's disc has no subtitles at all, so the ones it shows on PC were written for the port. Jak X has no subtitles in its scenes, only captions for its 1,417 movie lines.
OpenGOAL handled these with three near-copies of the same code, and sent every line through its own text drawing rather than the games'.
Retail, the way the disc does it
Under the retail-faithful preset, Jak II and Jak 3 now play their cutscene subtitles exactly as the disc does, through the games' own code. The language list also stopped writing past the end of the discs' own tables, eight slots in Jak II and twelve in Jak 3, which the port's extra languages had been overrunning.

Remastered, one system for four games
Under the remastered preset all four games hand their lines to one shared system and draw them in one overlay:
- The text is set in Noto Sans and drawn sharp at your screen's resolution.
- Jak II's and Jak 3's speakers keep their colors.
- Jak X's movie captions come through the same overlay.
- The trilogy's game options gain a Subtitle size slider, from half to double the normal size, saved with the rest of your settings.

Jak and Daxter's subtitles also moved to the same file format Jak II and Jak 3 use. With one core in place of three copies, a fix made once reaches every game.
